IRONMAN TRIATHLON FOR LUCA

By Shady Mikhael

Help me save little lives, support families and fund vital research.

My Dearest Family and Friends,

I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported me in raising over $7,000 for Red Nose as I completed the Mudgee Marathon in 2022.

Your support continued through my 100 km Oxfam Walk in 2023, helping me raise over $18,000 in honour of our little boy, Luca, and supporting Red Nose.

Both were challenges I never thought I could complete, but with your encouragement and the strength of my family and team by my side, I made it through. Together, we’ve made an impact on lives across Australia.

I’ve received so many words of inspiration and messages from friends who reached out and supported me throughout these two significant challenges. These experiences have taught me that courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.

Next year, on the 25th of January, I’ve decided to step it up further, Along with Max, we are taking on a Triathlon: a 3 km swim, 180 km bike ride, and a full 42 km marathon run.

I’ve always enjoyed pushing myself, and I know this challenge will stretch me to my absolute limits. But I am committed to facing it head-on!

Throughout this journey, I’ve developed a deep sense of gratitude for everything around me, which has opened my eyes to how I can be a better person every day. Once again, I’m taking on this challenge with faith, as I firmly believe that challenges are the only path to growth. It’s only after stepping far outside your comfort zone that you truly begin to change, grow, and transform.

This challenge is once again inspired by my angel, Luca, who is flying high in Heaven. Our family lost Luca, our firstborn, to SIDS at just 3 months old. I would do anything to see him again, and while I know that’s not possible, I will continue to do everything I can to honour him and remember him.

Once again, I am dedicating this challenge to Luca, and I will do everything I can to support the Red Nose Foundation in the hope that, one day, we’ll find the answers we need to reduce the chances of this unknown cause that takes children we love far too soon. Last year, we raised $18,000, which has already made a huge difference in many lives and has brought us one step closer to understanding the cause of why so many little ones are taken too soon.

I always say that giving isn’t just about donating. It’s about making a difference. It’s never about how much you give, but how much love you put into doing something that you know will impact lives.

Luca will be on my mind throughout this entire journey, and together, we hope to make a lasting difference.

Thank you in advance for your continued support.

With all my love,

Shadz, in honour of little Luca
