I’m still getting organised for the 100 flips challenge - so in the meantime - CHRISTMAS LIGHTS! I will be doing 100 flips on a wakeboard in 24 hours, to raise awareness for those that have their lives turned upside down due to miscarriage or early pregnancy loss. 100 flips is going to be tough on the body, with likely a few spills and a bit of dizziness. But nothing compared to the physical exhaustion experienced with the grief of a miscarriage.
I'm raising money for SANDS, with the knowledge these funds will go toward supporting and encouraging stubborn men like myself to seek help, and better support their partners going through trauma.
Many people are surprised to learn that about 1 in 4 pregnancies end before 10 weeks in miscarriage. It is much more common than many people think. For many women (and their partners), it's made harder by an unwritten social rule that says they should keep their news quiet - at least for the first 12 weeks.
As we continue to go through our own journey of multiple miscarriages and complications, SANDS has provided us both support to understand our loss. It's commonly assumed that men do not experience as much grief, as there is not an 'involvement' in the pregnancy. Many fathers experience grief. It's a natural response to the death of your much loved and wanted baby - regardless of how early the pregnancy was lost.
Everybody grieves in their own way, and SANDS helped me to identify my way - and let me know it was OK.
Every dollar raised goes directly to supporting Aussie families, funding vital research, and saving little lives.
So please dig deep - any assistance to get me through 100 flips helps many more families get through their own challenges.
