Fundraising in loving memory of Torah

In early 2016, Lara and Joel Black heard the words no expectant parent wants to hear, "I'm sorry, there's no heartbeat".

After a textbook pregnancy, they delivered their daughter Torah at 36 weeks. Torah was born pefect, but still.

In October, Lara and Joel held a fundraising competition in loving memory of Torah and of all the babies whose families didn't get to take them home.

Lara's Story

In early 2016, we heard the words no expectant parent wants to hear, "I'm sorry, there's no heartbeat".

My whole world shattered in seconds. I was numb.

After a textbook pregnancy, we delivered our daughter Torah at 36 weeks. Torah was born perfect, but still.

Our doctors explained that we'd lost Torah due to an internal bleed and having incompatible blood types. And worse still, this created antibodies in my system that would complicate any future pregnancies too.

The next few days were the hardest of our lives as I prepared to birth Torah knowing I'd never get to take her home.

Torah Jaymes Black was born on Valentine's Day 14 February 2016 - she will forever be our valentine.

After spending time cuddling and kissing her, and introducing her to our family, we said our final devastating goodbye.

And while life continued on as usual for the rest of the world, it felt like our lives just stood still.

Eventually we begun to heal with the help of our family, friends and a support group.

When I was ready to talk about it, I found it easier to write it all down and I emailed the Red Nose support team.

I got an email back straight away acknowledging my feelings and thoughts, and in that moment, it was everything I needed.

Today, being able to say Torah's name and acknowledge her as our daughter still means so much to us.

I'm so proud of Joel for putting together a number of fundraisers over the years to help share our story and keep Torah's name alive.

Our story is part of who we are and by sharing we hope to comfort other families who have been through something similar.

By experiencing loss, you have experienced love, which is always a beautiful thing.

Every catalogue you purchase today helps fund vital services for families that experience the heartbreaking loss of their baby or child.
